Tear Down Videos
Technology needs maintenance. Parts wear out, and dust builds up. This is especially true for laptops. Most people don’t dare think about opening up their laptop, for fear of damaging components. But there exists resources to help complete beginners disassemble everything from toasters to smart phones, and those are “Tear Down” videos. Try this out: Find the model number of your laptop. Punch that into YouTube with the words “Tear Down” and have a look at the first couple videos.
Looks easy enough? You’ll need the right tools, a screw-driver set and sometimes a “pry tool” though I find a credit card or a guitar pick are just as good if not better than your average pry too. It’s not limited to laptops though. Today, I took apart the vive in the hackerspace I’m working out of and I likely would not have had the confidence to do it without seeing videos first.
